What BoardChecked is
BoardChecked is a free directory of licensed contractors built from public records and public sources. We are not a contractor, an agent of any contractor or a licensing authority, and a listing, score or ranking is not an endorsement or a guarantee of anyone's work. Records change: before you hire anyone, confirm the licence, bond and insurance with the state board (links are on every listing), get a written contract and check references. Scores come from the published formula on How we rank; nobody can pay to change them.
Quote requests
When you request a quote, you ask us to pass your details to the business you chose (see our privacy policy). We don't guarantee that anyone will respond, quote or do the work. Any agreement you make is between you and the contractor; we are not a party to it and don't handle payments. Only send a request for real work you are considering.
Business owners
- You may claim a listing only for a business you own or are authorised to represent, and the details you add must be accurate and yours to publish.
- You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, adapt and distribute what you add, on BoardChecked and in our API, for as long as it is listed.
- Licence, bond, complaint and other public-record facts come from the state boards and can't be edited by owners; ask the board to correct them.
- We can edit, decline or remove owner content, and withdraw a claim, if it is inaccurate, misleading or breaks these terms.
Acceptable use
Don't misuse the site: no spam or fake requests, no false claims, no attempts to break security or spam protection, no overloading the site, and no automated collection of listings other than through the public API within its documented limits. Contractor contact details may not be used for unsolicited marketing.
Third-party content
Ratings, reviews and photos marked as from Google are Google's content, shown under Google's terms with attribution. Links to the BBB, state boards and businesses' websites go to sites we don't control and aren't responsible for.
Our content
The site's design, text, scores and compilation are ours. You may share links and quote individual facts with credit to BoardChecked; anything more needs our permission or the API.
Disclaimers
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Information may be out of date or wrong.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from work done or not done by a contractor you found here. Our total liability for any claim relating to BoardChecked is limited to $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Indemnity
If you break these terms or add content you had no right to add, you agree to cover the losses and reasonable costs it causes us.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before going to court, contact us and give us 30 days to try to resolve the issue. Either party may bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court.
Changes
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and using the site after a change means you accept it. If any part is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
